A court has heard an Illawarra pizza boy allegedly raped a teenage girl multiple times.

Omar Shady, 20, fronted Wollongong Local Court on Friday after being charged with three counts of having sexual intercourse with a child between the ages of 14 and 16.

The court heard the offending allegedly occurred in December.

Shady’s lawyer, Matthew Ward, told the court his client lacked any sort of criminal history and this was the first time he had been in custody.

Mr Ward submitted the likely lengthy period of time it would take for the matter to reach its conclusion, alongside statistics of similar offending that didn't result in a full-time custodial sentence, as reasons why Shady should be granted bail.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Amelia Wall said it wasn't “unusual” for younger people charged with this type of offending to lack a criminal history.

Sgt Wall told the court she had “made recommendations more serious charges be laid based on the facts”, adding the facts of this matter were “at the highest end for this type of offence”.

The court heard Omar Shady wouldn’t be able to work at Domino’s Pizza for the “foreseeable future”.

Sgt Wall also said the victim was “vulnerable” given her age and was “caused concern by the way they were communicating” including after the alleged incidents.

Registrar Peter Ritchie granted Shady bail on the proviso he reside at his family home in Berkeley, report to Lake Illawarra Command three times a week, surrender his passport and not go within 100 metres of any Australian point of departure.

Mr Ritchie also ordered he not go near or contact the alleged victim, or be in contact with any persons under the age of 16 except for family members.

Mr Ritchie advised Shady due to the final condition he wouldn’t be permitted to work at Domino’s Pizza Warrawong for the “foreseeable future”.

The matter will return to Wollongong Local Court later this month.
