An alleged bikie associate accused of choking his partner on several occasions until she passed out, as well allegedly beating her, once while she was pregnant, has been refused bail.

Cody Perrin, 24, was charged with 27 domestic violence related offences in February, after his estranged partner came forward to police following years of alleged abuse while they lived at Dapto and Oak Flats.

On Wednesday, details about the alleged assaults were revealed at Wollongong Local Court for the first time, as Perrin made an application for bail, which was ultimately refused by Magistrate Les Mabbutt due to the seriousness of the charges.

In documents tendered to the court, it was revealed the pair’s relationship began in 2015, after they met through a Facebook interaction about drugs.

Just two weeks into the relationship however, police allege Perrin began his years of abuse, which have left the woman with “significant psychological trauma”.

Some of the most disturbing allegations against Perrin arise from his first alleged attack on the woman in 2015.

In court documents, police allege the pair were getting ready for a wedding when he became enraged that she’d left a piece of her outfit at home.

His then girlfriend jumped in the car to go and get the item, and Perrin hopped in the passenger seat. During the drive to her house, police allege Perrin punched his girlfriend to the head and arm several times as she drove, before stabbing her with a nail file he found in the centre console.

Fearful the attacks would continue, police allege the woman stopped at an intersection and jumped out of the car “fearing further assaults”. However, Perrin urged her to get back in the car. Afraid, police allege in the documents, the women forced Perrin out of her car.

When she returned home to finish getting ready for the wedding, police allege in the documents that Perrin arrived back at her home.

Believing he’d “calmed down” the woman let him in, however, it’s alleged he attacked again, grabbing her hair from behind and pushing her to the floor. As she landed on the ground, it’s alleged he started “kicking her hard” while wearing pointed dress shoes.

The woman tried to escape to her bedroom, but as she did so, Perrin allegedly continued to kick her and scream derogatory names in her ear so loudly that it “caused her pain”.

As she screamed for help, police allege he covered her mouth and nose with one hand and choked her with the other, causing her to “become dizzy and eventually pass out”.

The woman woke to Perrin allegedly slapping her. Police allege he then locked her in the house before he grabbed a “large knife” and held it above his head “in a manner indicating he would stab her”, according to the documents.

As the woman pleaded for her life, police allege he began “lashing out” at the victim with the knife, cutting the left side of her stomach and drawing blood.

Over the next three years, Perrin’s alleged abuse continued. According to the documents, he allegedly choked her to the point of unconsciousness a total of six times.

It’s also alleged in court documents that his attacks became worse in 2017 when he joined a bikie gang and started to use the drug ice more regularly.

On one occasion that year, he allegedly spat at her continuously while treating her like a dog and forcing her to crawl around on her hands and knees.

In arguing for his release to bail, Perrin’s defence lawyer told the court there had already been a significant delay in her client’s case, and that was worsened by the fact it was his first time in custody.

However police prosecutor Sergeant Tanya Pavlin argued Perrin had “portrayed extreme violence” to the alleged victim and the risk he posed not only to her, but the wider community, was too great.

Magistrate Mabbutt agreed and adjourned the case to September. Perrin will remain on remand in custody until then.
