The identity of a woman tragically killed in a fierce house fire last week has been revealed as the community rallies around her family.
Kirstie Lawrence, 33, died last week when a house on Matthew Street in Fairy Meadow caught on fire in a fierce blaze that took dozens of firefights to subdue.
Hero firefighters dived through windows and crawled on their hands and knees with zero visibility to find Ms Lawrence, who had been on the phone to a Triple-0 operator for some time telling them she was trapped by the blaze.
They found Ms Lawrence unconscious in a bedroom and pulled her out.
But in the end it wasn’t enough to save the woman who died on Thursday night in hospital.
Her family shared their devastation with the community in a Go Fund Me post, which detailed the events of May 19 when the fire occurred.
“This world lost one of the kindest souls you could ever meet, my Aunty,” wrote her nephew, who was also injured in the blaze.
Beau Mokohar started the GoFundMe to share the devastating impact of the fire on his family and to ask for help from the community in rebuilding their lives and his grandmother’s home,
In the post, Mr Mokohar told supporters of the fundraiser the family was devastated by the loss of Ms Lawrence but comforted to know she was no longer in pain.
“I know that she’ll be watching down on me and my whole family and I know god has put her in a place where she can now be in peace,” he wrote.
Many friends and family members have sent their condolences to the family and expressed their concern for Ms Lawrence’s partner after the tragedy. Her nephew thanks those who have been there for the family.
“The support we have received so far hasn’t gone unnoticed and any donations to help get my family back on their feet will be appreciated,” he wrote.
After the tragic blaze, Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Chad Wallace praised the work of the firefighters who tried to save Ms Lawrence’s life.
“It was horrendous fire conditions,” he said.
“Flames were bursting out of the windows, thick black smoke was coming out of every opening of this house, and despite those horrendous conditions those firefighters went absolutely, well and truly above and beyond, their efforts can only be described as super human.”
