Coronavirus: Six Illawarra/Shoalhaven COVID-19 cases confirmed

NSW Health has confirmed the number of people with coronavirus has jumped in the Illawarra Shoalhaven area, saying each of the new cases are now in isolation.

The number of confirmed coronavirus has jumped in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region, with NSW Health confirming six people in the area have contracted the virus.

NSW Health has confirmed it is contacting people who have been in close contact with those who have contacted the virus.

“All six confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region are in isolation,” Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District spokesman said.

“Unless there is an ongoing risk to public health, information relating to individuals cases

will not be released. NSW Health will work to make contact with those most affected.”

The news comes as a further 57 people have tested positive to the virus in the past day, bringing the state total to 267.

A dedicated COVID-19 assessment clinic has been established at Wollongong Hospital to enable many of those who fit the case criteria to be assessed without having to go to an emergency department.

“People who have returned from overseas in the last 14 days, and most importantly, showing fever and/or respiratory symptoms including cough, shortness of breath or sore throat are encouraged to attend the clinic,” Illawarra Shoalhaven local Health District’s director of public health Curtis Gregory said.

“Close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases are also within the criteria for such testing.”

People do not need a GP referral to the clinic, but are encouraged to phone ahead for an

appointment to minimise wait times.

The clinic is located at the back of Lawson House on the Wollongong Hospital campus and entry is via the dedicated parking and drop-off zone off Loftus Street, which is clearly sign posted.
