A coroner has found an underworld figure who vanished from his Illawarra home on Halloween nine years ago was murdered by a person known to him.

Goran Nikolovski was last seen at his Unanderra home on October 31, 2011, while his silver Honda Accord was found burnt out in bushland on Macquarie Pass the following day.

An inquest into his disappearance and suspected death was held in Albion Park last month, with Coroner Roger Clisdell finding the then aged 35-year-old was killed by someone known to him.

“I am comfortably satisfied that someone late on the evening of 31 October or early on the morning of 1, November 2011, Goran Nikolovski was murdered by a known person, that there are unknown persons were present at the time for which there will be an ongoing investigation,” his findings read.

His death was one of three brazen killings in the Wollongong area in a six-month period from the end of September 2011 and early April 2011 targeting Balkan crime figures.

On the night he was last seen alive, Nikolovski, who was of caucasian appearance, 175 centimetres with a solid build, was wearing a light blue T-shirt, black tracksuit pants and a black baseball cap.

Following Coroner Clisdell’s findings, a police investigation is set to continue into the unsolved murder.
