New data released by NSW Health has revealed the number of people diagnosed with coronavirus in each local government across the region.
On Thursday, the Local Health District confirmed 51 people in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven region have tested positive for coronavirus, and that six of them were in Wollongong Hospital for treatment, one of which was in the intensive care unit (ICU).
The patient in ICU is understood to be an elderly person who recently disembarked from the Ruby Princess cruise ship, which has had 120 confirmed cases of the virus.
New data released on Thursday shows the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in each LGA.
In the Wollongong Local Government area, which includes suburbs from Clifton to Yallah, 24 people have tested positive for the virus.
In the Shellharbour LGA, covering suburbs from Albion Park to Shell Cove, 10 people have been confirmed to have the virus.
The Shoalhaven has seven confirmed cases, one of which was a patient at Shoalhaven Hospital when she was diagnosed, while Kiama has between one and four patients, according to NSW Health.
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health Unit has chosen not to reveal more localised data in order to protect patient safety, however has assured the community every close contact of infected patients has been followed up.
While specific ages are not available, the district’s director of public health Curtis Gregory said the majority of cases were among people over the age of 60, and that most had only “mild to moderate symptoms” at this stage.
A total of 3395 people have now been tested for COVID-19 throughout the local health district, with results taking two to four days to come through.
