A Koonawarra man has admitted to running a sophisticated ‘ice’ supply headquarters from his home following a lengthy police investigation.

Brett Roe, 42, faced Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of supply prohibited drug on an ongoing basis and one count of conduct a drug premises.

Roe was arrested at his home on December 11 last year, after detectives from Strike Force Swany, established to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs in the Illawarra, pounced on his Wyndarra Way drug headquarters.

In a set of agreed facts tendered to the court on Wednesday, it was revealed Roe was responsible for the distribution of prohibited drugs, predominantly, methamphetamine or ‘ice’, from both his Wyndarra Way home, and another home at Culgoa Crescent.

Over the course of the police investigation, which began in September 2019, police used surveillance and phone intercepts, which revealed that “90+ per cent” of his calls related to the supply of drugs.

On one occasion in September a customer met with Roe, after arranging to purchase an “eight ball” or 3.5 grams of ice for the negotiated price of $500.

Roe told the person he would send a “runner” out to give him the drugs the following day. But, unbeknown to Roe, the customer was actually a police informant.

Between September 24 and the day before his arrest on December 11, police allege Roe supplied more than 135 grams of ice, with a large number of those alleged transactions taking place at his Wyndarra Way home.

“The accused was monitored to secrete prohibited drugs in various places so customers could collect the drug and leave money,” court document said.

“On other occasions customers would utilise the reserve at the rear of the accused’s premises.”

It will also be alleged that Roe kept a close eye on his visitors, installing a “sophisticated” CCTV network at his home, which was displayed on a large screen in his living room.

During the raid on Roe’s home on December 11, police uncovered fireworks that he did not have a license to possess, and 450 grams of cannabis.

Roe was released on bail earlier this year to attend a residential rehab program. He was supported by a case worker at court on Wednesday.

Roe will return to the NSW District Court next month where a date will be set for his sentencing.
