A tattooed concreter caught with ecstasy pills, diazepam and meth hidden in his car has landed himself back in court after driving while disqualified.

Owner of Bosscrete concreting company Rory James Smith was granted bail at Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday after he was caught breaching his bail by driving without a licence.

Smith, who has the name of his business tattooed to his hand, told the court he “realised what a stupid thing I did”, and promised to “never do this kind of thing again”.

The 30-year-old was first arrested and charged with shoplifting, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, two counts of possess/attempt to prescribed restricted substance, possess prohibited drug and drug supply in January, after a trip to Bunnings went awry.

Documents tendered to the court stated that he attended the Kembla Grange Bunnings store on January 21, where he took several items to his car without paying.

Documents reveal Bunnings staff saw Smith steal the items and approached him as he was attempting to leave the car park.

Smith was asked if he had any stolen items in the vehicle to which he acknowledged, and was asked to retrieve the goods from his car.

A black safe-like box was located on the front footwell of the front passenger seat. Bunnings staff believed the item was stolen and opened it up, finding a variety of pills and prohibited drugs were located.

Staff took the box and contacted police, who attended the Bunnings store.

Court documents stated that police were given an itemised receipt of the goods that were in the accused vehicle which totalled $646.10.

“At no time did the accused pay for or attempt to pay for the goods,” the documents read.

Police searched the small black box and saw a variety of pills, including 16 ecstasy pills, 1 gram of meth, 10 diazepam tablets as well as other prescription medications.

Smith made full admissions to being the owner of the drugs, telling police the prescription pills were given to him by a doctor and that scripts were in the vehicle. However police were unable to locate them.

Police also noticed he was disqualified from driving at the time.

Smith was again arrested on Tuesday, after he was caught driving despite his bail ordering he not occupy the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle.

Smith told the court he’d recently moved to Nowra with his partner, who is a real estate agent, and pleaded guilty to each of the offences against him.

He will be sentenced at Nowra Local Court later this month.
