A Barrack Heights man charged over an alleged gunpoint carjacking has been committed to stand trial in the NSW District Court.

Glenn Robert Wilson, 42, faced Wollongong Local Court via audiovisual link on Wednesday, after he allegedly threatened to kill a Figtree man with a gun, and stole his silver Range Rover on April 9.

Police allege in court documents that on the morning of April 9, Wilson attended a home on St George Ave, and was buzzed through the front gate by the resident.

After speaking with the male resident, who was known to Wilson, he asked to see the Range Rover parked in the front driveway.

After allegedly “fiddling” in the back of his pants, Wilson turned to the resident and pointed a gun in his face, ordering him to get on the ground.

After demanding the keys, Wilson allegedly reversed the car out of the driveway, telling the man he was part of the ‘Lone Wolfs’ and would come back and kill the man if he contacted the police.

CCTV tendered to the court earlier this year showed Wilson arrive at the premises and some discussions between the man and Wilson, but, police said the garage area where the gun was allegedly produced was not covered by the security cameras.

After the alleged carjacking, police launched a large scale search for Wilson, instead finding the Range Rover was found abandoned in Berkeley.

Police issued a warrant for Wilson’s later that afternoon, with the 42-year-old presenting himself into police several days later on April 15, after almost a week on the run.

Wilson, who was charged with robbery while armed with a weapon was committed to stand trial in the district court today, with his defence lawyer Matt Ward telling the court his client would be defending the matter on mental health grounds.

Wilson will first appear in Wollongong District Court on October 29.
