A well-respected Illawarra doctor accused of bribing a drug-dependent patient with opiates in exchange for sexual acts has been slapped with additional charges relating the alleged assault of another man he treated.

Balgownie doctor Thean Soo Chin, who practices under the name Christopher Chin, has been charged with four aggravated indecent assault offences at his latest appearance in Wollongong Local Court.

Chin, a respected doctor who has been working at the same Balgownie practice for 19 years, is now facing four counts of aggravated indecent assault, two counts of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of sexually touching a person without consent, relating to alleged incidents between two male patients from 2014 and 2019.

Chin, 58, was first charged in October, with police alleging he left one his long-term male patients feeling “degraded and ashamed” after forcing him to perform sex acts in exchange for up to 10 boxes of opiates at a time.

The alleged victim had a drug dependency following a surgery in 2001, and allegedly told police he was “too worried” to report the alleged abuse, for fear that no one would believe him, and because of his dependence on prescription drugs.

However, Chin’s practice was raided on October 24, after police allege the patient secretly recorded consults with Chin, in which he allegedly touched the man sexually, and requested sex acts.

The new documents indicate police will allege a second man was indecently assaulted on four occasions between December 2016 and March 2017 by Chin, while he was seeing the patient in his office.

The most distressing new claims laid out in the latest court documents include that Chin allegedly grabbed his male patient by the ears during an examination, allegedly pulling the man’s head into his own genitals while telling a “sexual joke”.

Police also allege in the documents that Chin placed his genitals in the man’s hand during one visit, and during another two slapped his backside as he walked out of the room, and touched is inner thigh in “aggravated circumstances”.

Chin, who was granted bail by a Supreme Court Judge last year briefly appeared in Wollongong Local Court in front of Magistrate Roger Clisdell on Wednesday, before his case was adjourned to a date early next year.

He is yet to enter pleas to any of the charges.
