Australian football legend Scott Chipperfield to fight domestic violence charges

Illawarra football icon Scott Chipperfield has pleaded not guilty to allegations he assaulted a woman at his home in Corrimal.

One of the Illawarra’s greatest sporting exports who represented Australia at two FIFA World Cup has chosen to fight allegations he assaulted a woman at his home in Corrimal.

Scott Chipperfield, who played 68 games for the Socceroos, did not appear in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday when his lawyer entered not guilty pleas to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

Documents tendered in court said Chipperfield allegedly assaulted the same woman about 12.30am in the early hours of Monday, March 13.

The matter is now listed to return to Wollongong Local Court in July for a hearing.

Chipperfield’s bail will continue.

The utility player had a decorated playing career where he starred for the Wollongong Wolves in the NSL before spending more than a decade a Swiss club FC Basel.

The Football Australia Hall of Famer hung up his boots in 2019 after a stint with Bellambi in the Illawarra District League.

The medal awarded to the best on ground in the Illawarra Premier League grand final also bears the name of the 47-year-old.

In recent years Chipperfield has coached Women’s NSW National Premier League club the Illawarra Stingrays and Illawarra Premier League side Tarrawanna.

Chipperfield also runs an Illawarra-based training clinic dubbed ‘Chipper’s Finishing School’.
