Ages of Illawarra Shoalhaven COVID-19 patients released as cases continue to rise

The Illawarra Shoalhaven local health district has revealed the ages of those infected across our region, as well as the local government areas they reside in.

Cases of coronavirus in the Illawarra region have reached almost 60, after an additional six cases were diagnosed overnight.

On Friday, the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District confirmed 57 people now have the virus across the region.

At the beginning of this week, there were 38 cases which had jumped by almost 20 by Friday.

The district has also revealed the ages of those infected across our region, as well as the local government areas they reside in.

According to new information, 30 confirmed cases in the region are male, while 27 are female.

One of the confirmed cases is under 20, while three are aged between 20 and 29.

There are five cases confirmed in the 30-39 year range, eight in the 40-49 year age bracket and 10 aged between 60-69.

It’s understood a patient in the 60-69 year age bracket is currently in ICU, after contracting COVID-19 on the Ruby Princess cruise ship.

The majority of the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s confirmed cases are in the 70-79 range, with the district recording 14 cases.

Seven people aged over 80 are also confirmed as having the virus in the Illawarra Shoalhaven.

In total, six patients are being treated in Wollongong Hospital, while one is being treated at Shoalhaven Hospital. The others are understood to be isolating at home.

“Anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 and their close contacts are either being treated in hospital or are in self-isolation to ensure there is no ongoing risk of infection to others in the community,” a spokesman for the district said.

“The ISLHD Public Health Unit is contacting close contacts of the new cases, who are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days from last contact.

“They will be contacted every day to check that they are well and any contact who develops COVID-19 symptoms will be tested for the infection.”
