A Warilla man has been refused bail following allegations he stabbed a mate in the neck and throat causing “ghastly” injuries, after a dispute over a sum of cash.

Adam Fahey, 27, was arrested on December 4 after police allege he left a man in hospital with serious injuries following a stabbing.

Fahey was charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of possess shortened firearm without authority and possessing ammunition without holding a license or permit.

He faced Wollongong Local Court from cells at Parklea jail on Monday, where police prosecutor Sergeant Ben Bragger said the alleged assault was “absolutely horrific”.

“The injuries to the (alleged victim) are absolutely ghastly,” he said.

“There’s a reason why one of these charges carries life in prison.”

Magistrate Susan McGowan agreed the allegations were serious and refused Fahey’s application for bail.

The court heard Fahey was allegedly contacted by a man on December 3 via Facebook Messenger, requesting he pick him up.

Fahey attended the man’s Albion Park address and retrieved him, before driving to Rowley Ave in Warilla. Once they arrived, the man asked Fahey to exit the car so they could “talk”.

In documents tendered to the court, police allege that as the man walked to the back of Fahey’s car, he felt a “thud to the right side of his face and neck”.

The man realised he was bleeding heavily and screamed for help, running from Fahey as he did so.

A passer-by assisted the man and called an ambulance, who transported the man to hospital. While in hospital, the man received 14 sutures to close the wound on his neck and was also treated for two stab wounds to the side of his face.

In the documents, police claim the man was lucky to be alive following Fahey’s alleged attack.

“Had the wound been inflicted a short distance to the front of the man’s neck it could have severed his carotid artery, which could have ended his life,” police stated in court documents.

As part of their investigations, police looked at the man’s phone, where it’s alleged Fahey told him to pay back the money he owed him.

Police raided Fahey’s home the next day, where they found a shortened rifle under his bed, and another stuffed in a sock, as well as several shotgun shells hidden in a glasses case.

Fahey will remain behind bars on remand until he returns to court in February 2021. He is yet to enter pleas to the charges.
