An Illawarra woman has faced court for allegedly drink-driving almost nine times the legal limit and crashing her car into a fence.
Gemma Purcell, 34, was charged with High Range drink driving on July 21 after shocking police with an alleged breath test reading of 0.432.
Police conducted the roadside breath test on the woman, who was found stopped in her yellow Suzuki Swift upon arrival, after hearing reports a car crashed into a fence along Springhill Rd at Cringila about 2pm on July 21.
Police will allege that after she returned a positive reading, Purcell was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where she allegedly returned the outrageous breath analysis reading.
The Warilla woman pleaded not guilty to the drink driving charge at Kiama Local Court on Monday.
Prior to her short appearance, Purcell appeared nervous and broke down in tears several times before entering her plea.
Outside court, Purcell offered no explanation as to why she was behind the wheel that day, saying it was nothing but “a miscommunication.”
The matter will now proceed to hearing, with the date set down for February next year.
