A TRUCK driver is fighting for his life after being crushed by a semi-trailer before 5am this morning at Wahroonga.

NSW Police have confirmed the man in his 60s was inspecting the brakes of the rig at the entrance to the M1 Pacific Motorway at Wahroonga when it rolled onto him, crushing his legs.

“It looks like he is the driver and he has been hit by his own vehicle,” A NSW Police spokesman said.

“The driver, who is in his 60s, stopped his semi-trailer in the Northbound lanes of the M1 at Wahroonga when the incident occurred.

“We understand the driver had experienced issues with the brakes, he was doing an inspection of the truck and it appears as though the semi has rolled over his legs causing massive injuries to him.”

“The driver was treated at the scene by emergency services and was transported to Royal North Shore in a critical condition.”

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said he could not confirm reports in the media that the semi-trailer was being operated by the man.

“It is understood that the male patient was hit by the semi-trailer, resulting in significant lower limb injuries,” the spokesman said.

“The patient also suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene, before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.

“Paramedics received the call out at 4.50am this morning.”
