A Westleigh boy was killed in a two-car crash on The Esplanade in Thornleigh on Wednesday morning as wild weather lashed Sydney.

The 14-year-old was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla being driven by his 17-year-old brother when it collided head-on with a Landrover Discovery before striking a parked car.

The boy died at the scene while his brother and 50-year-old driver of the other vehicle were taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

The woman said there was a bend along the road where the crash happened and it was a dangerous spot.

“It is just this horrible spot where it was an accident waiting to happen,” she said.

“It is so narrow … and there are so many entry streets where people take risks to cross both lanes.”

She said it was awful to hear someone had died.

Jo Li, who lives in Janet Ave, said she would not even try to turn right on to The Esplanade and avoided it.

“Normally I don’t drive there, only if I turn left toward Hornsby otherwise I go all the way back around.”

She said people often drove fast along the road because there were two downhill stretches near that spot where the fatality occurred.

Kuring-gai police, the Traffic and Highway Patrol and the Crash Investigation Unit are investigating the incident. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
