The Northern District Rangers chances of winning a Sydney First Grade cricket trophy this summer all but over after they went down in their limited overs match to the Sydney Tigers at Drummoyne Oval last Saturday.

After a 61 run opening stand between Jack Colley (who made 31) and Henry Hunt (28), the Rangers collapsed to be bowled out for 135 in the 44th of their allotted 50 overs.

The Tigers passed the target in the 28th over at 4/136. Louie Shaw took 3/48 from 9.3 overs as the pick of the Rangers’ attack.

Northern District won a thrilling Second Grade game at Mark Taylor Oval by six runs after a superb David Ball century (116 off 109 balls) with support from Clayton Waters (77 not out) saw the Rangers post 5/262 from their 50 overs.

The Rangers fought back in the run chase to restrict the visitors to 7/256. Matt Phillips led the way with 2/36 from his eight overs.

An explosive 65 not out off 47 balls from Kieran Jayasekera saw the Rangers post a winning 7/244 in Third Grade at Birchgrove Park, with the Tigers bowled out for 210 in the 48th over.

A patient 77 from opener Jack Stocks propelled the Rangers to a winning total of 6/231 in the Fourth Grade match at Asquith Oval, with a brilliant 6/28 from Jayden Brown skittling the Tigers for 177 in the 46th over.

Finally, Fifth Grade won their first match for the season after scrambling to 8/168 from their 50 overs on a difficult Ryde Oval wicket. A superb bowling and fielding display saw the Rangers bowl the Tigers out for 127 in the 44th over.

The Rangers resume after the Christmas break with another one day limited overs round against University of NSW on January 6.
