The Northern District Rangers started 2018 on a winning note in all five grades over University of NSW in Sydney Grade cricket last Saturday – the first time all five Rangers teams have saluted in the same round this summer.

In oppressive heat, a superb 117 off 136 balls from tyro opener Henry Hunt helped the Rangers post an imposing 5/283 in First Grade at Alan Davidson Oval, St Peters.

A brilliant 126 from Bumblebees’ skipper David Dawson threatened to take the match away from the Rangers – before he was run out in the closing stages with the home side finishing 10 runs short at 8/273.

The Rangers’ Second Grade scored a dramatic 23 run win at Mark Taylor Oval – where Louie Shaw took 4/20 off his 10 overs to spark a Bumblebees collapse from 0/60 to 151 all out chasing Northern Districts’ moderate total of 174.

A brilliant bowling performance saw the Rangers easily win their Third Grade game at David Phillips South Field, Daceyville. The Rangers bowled Uni of NSW out for 131, before scoring 4/134 inside 27 overs to secure a bonus point.

A timely 95 not out from Hamish Green helped the Rangers score 8/245 in Fourth Grade at Asquith Oval, with Northern District bowling out the Bumblebees for 159 in reply.

The Rangers’ Fifth Grade completed the clean sweep with a great 38 run win at David Phillips North Field defending just 166. Skipper Pat Murton led from the front with 4/35 as Uni of NSW were skittled for 128 in reply.

The Rangers return to two day cricket in First Grade for their next round against Bankstown on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend at Mark Taylor Oval, while all other grades play another round of One Day games on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
