OLIVER Browne knew that he wanted to play AFL by the age of four but he never anticipated celebrating 150 games with the Hornsby Berowra Eagles — at the age of 15.

He has been nominated for the Hornsby Advocate Junior Sports star awards, sponsored by Rebel and told the Advocate, what it takes to become a star.

“I am really committed to my team,” Browne said.

“Footy always takes priority over other things like parties or going out with mates from school, because I am a member of a team, I don’t want to let my teammates down and I enjoy playing with them every week.

“It also involves a bit of luck, not getting injured or falling sick before you play.”

Browne said it was the fast paced nature of the game that keeps him coming back for more.

“I would love to make a career out of AFL,” he said. “It would be a dream to have a job that I excel in and can enjoy every day.

Hornsby Berowra Eagles member Paul Stafford nominated Browne for the Junior Sports Star award because he demonstrated the club’s ethos of “inclusion, fun, sportsmanship and respect”.

“His talent on the sporting field is extremely high,” Stafford said.

“However it is his involvement off the football field that makes him such a worthy recipient. Ollie mentors our under 11 team that have had a very successful season, not winning any games.

“Ollie was able to keep them motivated and look to provide insights to assist with their development as players and as a team. While the team didn’t win any games, they became a lot more competitive and were improving week on week.”

Recently celebrating his 150th game with the club, Browne received a life membership for the milestone.
