Road work on the M2 this week includes closing the Pennant Hills Rd exit and building a new lane

SECTIONS of the M2 between Pennant Hills Rd and Windsor Rd in both directions will be closed between 9pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday until the end of February 2018.

A WHOLE lot of roadworks will close parts of the M2 and the entire eastbound off-ramp to Pennant Hills Rd beginning on Friday.

The work to build an extra lane, a cycleway and an entry for the new NorthConnex motorway is expected to take about 16 months.

Sections of the M2 between Pennant Hills Rd and Windsor Rd in both directions will be closed between 9pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday, weather permitting, until the end of February 2018.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokeswoman said creating a new westbound lane on the M2 will allow southbound motorists in the new NorthConnex tunnel to merge safely with westbound traffic on the M2.

“There is currently one westbound lane closed 24 hours a day. This closure will be in place for about two years,” she said.

“This additional lane closure will only be over night and for a length of about 700 metres and will vary on location depending on where the work is being carried out.

“Generally, there will be no work on Friday or Saturday nights however some weekend work may be required and directly impacted residents will be notified separately.”

The M2 eastbound exit to Pennant Hills Rd will be closed between 6pm and 8am on Friday, to Sunday, weather permitting.

A 10km “primary” detour will be via Windsor Rd, Old Northern Rd, Terminus St, Castle Hill Rd, and Pennant Hills Rd.

An alternative detour via Lane Cove Rd, Pacific Highway and Pennant Hills Rd will also be in place.
