DEVELOPERS have revised plans for two landmark residential buildings in the heart of Hornsby’s west side — sparking calls from local action groups to defend the heritage of the upper north shore.

The development applications for the dual high-rise towers at the corner of Peats Ferry Rd and Dural St, Hornsby, is on exhibition for public consultation after developers Lyon Tanner Hornsby made revisions to the proposal this week.

Revisions included the reduction of two storeys to 21 floors and 18 apartments in the development, resulting in a total of 231 dwellings.

The application said the proposed redevelopment of the site would involve “the retention and integration of the on-site heritage items into a large-scale mixed-use development”.

The plans included basement carparking, a commercial plaza, three levels of commercial floor space including a childcare centre and retail outlets, as well as two residential towers ranging from 11 to 21 storeys.

The report said heritage items including Norwood House, a heritage-listed shop and bank, would either be retained or relocated.

Historian and action group member Christopher Russell called on Hornsby Council to fight the development.

“Council needs to write the Planning Minister and say the Hornsby Shire has its fair quota of apartments,” Mr Russell said.

“This development is over the top and would bring more traffic problems.”

Mr Russell encouraged residents to make a submission during the exhibition period, which closes on November 16.
