Pride of Australia: Robert and Anne Corbertt continue SES services after decades of dedication

THEY  may have retired from their management positions at Hornsby SES, but Robert and Anne Corbett are determined to keep up their volunteering.

The Corbertt family have served in the Hornsby SES for more than four decades.

THEY  may have retired from their management positions at Hornsby SES, but Robert and Anne Corbett are determined to keep up their volunteering.

After decades of service, Mr Corbett said he was still around on SES job sites because he was a “slow learner”.

“I have been volunteering for the SES 42 years in December, Anne has been volunteering for the past 29 years,” Mr Corbett said.

“From the moment I moved into my home, the SES were there to support me and 40 years on I am still loving every bit of it.

“Our whole family is involved in the SES and we loved every second of it.

“You have to commit to your community and we feel we are doing something practical to support the people of Hornsby. Our crew is our family, we would do anything for them.”

After decades of service to the Hornsby Shire, the couple knew it was time to step back, but were determined to continue serving.

“We love looking after the citizens of the Hornsby Shire in their time of need, but some of my most memorable jobs have been travelling all over the country supporting residents in storm and flood-affected areas” Mr Corbett said.

“We all need to look after each other, because we always want to come home at the end of the day.”

Hornsby SES spokesman John Goh nominated the pair for the Pride of Australia award.

“Bob and Anne are more than just SES,” Mr Goh said.

“They do strong community work through Hornsby Hospital, Hornsby Council and other events, and as mentors to so many young people in SES who have furthered their careers in other emergency management areas.”
