A 65-year-old man has died at the NorthConnex Wilson Rd compound on Tuesday morning, following a “workplace accident” on the site.

An Ambulance NSW spokesman confirmed the 65-year-old man received chest injuries before subsequently suffering from a cardiac arrest.

“Paramedics were called out to Pennant Hills Rd, Pennant Hills, shortly after 8am this morning after reports of a man suffering from chest injuries,” the spokesman said.

A spokesman for Hornsby state Liberal MP Matt Kean told the Advocate that a “65-year-old male NorthConnex worker was critically injured this morning, an hour after starting his shift at 7am on the Wilson Rd compound”.

“It is believed a pressurised pipe has dislodged from the wall and hit the man in the torso, he was knocked to the ground and struck his head in the process,” the spokesman said.

“Emergency services were called immediately by the man’s co-workers.

“The man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a serious condition, unfortunately the man died a short time later.

“Counselling has been provided for staff at the Wilson Rd compound and a crime scene has been established.”

A NSW Police spokesman confirmed the incident occurred at around 8am this morning.

“Emergency services were called to the Wilson Rd worksite after a workplace incident was reported to Police,” the spokesman said.

“Officers located a man, believed to be in his late 50s to early 60s with critical injuries.

“The man was transported to hospital, however died a short time later.”

The spokesman said “SafeWork NSW had been notified of the incident”.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokeswoman also confirmed the incident had occurred.

“Roads and Maritime Services, NorthConnex and contractor LLBV are working with authorities to support investigations of NSW Police and SafeWork NSW,” the spokeswoman said.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance told media outlets that he was “deeply saddened” by the “tragic workplace accident”.

“We will do everything we can to support SafeWork NSW and NSW Police in the investigations,” Mr Constance said.
