NAPLAN results NSW: Top primary and high schools, Hornsby

NewsLocal has crunched the numbers to find the top-performing schools in Hornsby according to their NAPLAN scores. See the results.

Each year, thousands of school students sit down to complete their NAPLAN test.

Now the results are in, and NewsLocal can reveal the ten schools from across Hornsby Shire which were ranked among the top 40 in NSW in the 2021 exams.

These schools are evenly split: five are private and five are public, six are primary and the remaining four are secondary.

But while most of the top-performing primary schools are coeducational, all of the best high schools in Hornsby are single sex.

1. Abbotsleigh Junior School

Abbotsleigh Junior School is ranked second for primary schools in NSW, achieving well above average scores in all five subject areas — numeracy, grammar, spelling, writing and reading.

2. Hornsby North Public School

This public school came fifth out of all NSW primary schools.

Over the past five years, Hornsby North’s NAPLAN results have been steadily improving and this school has rapidly climbed up the ranks of NSW’s top-performing primary schools.

3. Hornsby Girls High School

Hornsby Girls, an academically selective public school, is ranked fifth in the list of NSW’s NAPLAN results by high school.

This selective school consistently achieves high academic marks, and is often counted among the top schools in NSW for ATAR results.

4. Normanhurst Boys High School

Like Hornsby Girls, Normanhurst Boys is an academically selective high school.

This school is ranked tenth for NAPLAN results, achieving well above average in all subject areas for both years seven and nine.

5. Beecroft Public School

Over the past five years, Beecroft Public School has achieved consistently high results in the NAPLAN test. This year was no different with Beecroft coming in eleventh.

6. Knox Grammar (primary)

Located in Wahroonga, Knox Grammar’s preparatory school is ranked fifteenth in the state for 2021’s NAPLAN results.

7. Arden Anglican School (primary)

Arden Anglican’s junior school has achieved an amazing improvement in comparison to 2019’s NAPLAN results — they are now ranked nineteenth in the state.

8. Abbotsleigh School (secondary)

Abbotsleigh’s middle school (years 7-8) and senior campus (years 9-12) are ranked twenty-third in NSW for average NAPLAN score.

9. Waitara Public School

Since 2018, Waitara public school’s marks have been steadily improving. This school is now ranked thirtieth in the state for NAPLAN results among primary schools.

10. Knox Grammar (secondary)

Knox Grammar’s senior school is the final entry in this list of top-performing schools in Hornsby. It’s ranked thirty-seventh in the state for average NAPLAN score.
