A man has suffered critical injuries after falling three metres through a roof at a school in Sydney’s north.
Emergency services including CareFlight were called following reports a man had fallen from the roof at Wahroonga Public School on Burns Rd just after 9am.
The 52-year-old-man, who was a roof cleaner, suffered head and chest injuries and was in a critical condition.
“We were called just after 9am to a man who fell three metres from a roof,” A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said.
“It was a workplace injury.”
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedics did an ultrasound on the patient, who suffered a concussion, and found he had internal bleeding.
He was put in an induced coma before before being transported by road to Royal North Shore Hospital.
A SafeWork NSW spokesman said, “We are investigating an incident this morning at a school in Wahroonga where a man fell from a roof while undertaking maintenance work.”
NSW Ambulance duty operations manager Anthony Clark said paramedics and CareFlight did an “amazing job” in quickly treating the man.
“When responding to these sorts of jobs you are never really sure how extensive the injuries are going to be,” he said.
He also warned the public to avoid such accidents by taking “proper safety precautions.”
“A fall from a height can have significant risks and complications (...)
“All it takes is a split second and a routine activity can turn into a tragic accident that can impact someone’s life forever.”
SafeWork’s investigations are ongoing.
