A man alleged to have solicited child abuse material has been banned from going near children and using social media after he was released on bail.
Court documents allege Hornsby man Saurabh Mishra solicited child abuse material via a phone between July 8 and July 9.
The 31-year-old was arrested around 4pm on Wednesday, July 10, following an investigation by the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
He faced the Hornsby Local Court for a bail application on Thursday, seen sitting in the dock wearing a bright red hoodie.
Details of Mishra’s alleged offences were not revealed in open court.
The allegations were described as “serious” in nature, however the court was told the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) did not oppose bail for Mishra and asked that he have strict conditions if released.
These conditions included prohibiting him from being near or spending time with anyone under the age of 16 and from visiting areas where children are known to frequent – such as gaming arcades or daycare centres.
The court was told Mishra would have to leave his job, which was not disclosed, as a result of the conditions.
He had no criminal history but there were still concerns he would fail to appear in court or pose a threat to others’ safety upon release.
The court was told the prosecution had a “strong case”.
Mishra was granted bail with 11 conditions, including being banned from seeking out employment or voluntary work involving children under 16-years-old, that he only own one mobile phone that does not have access to the internet and to not access the internet for any reason other than banking, employment, a medical reason or to communicate with legal representatives.
He will face the Downing Centre Local Court on September 4.
