HORNSBY councillors have been inundated with residents’ concerns over a proposed development at 55 Coonara Ave, West Pennant Hills — despite the region not being within the council’s boundaries.
Cr Janelle McIntosh said she had received feedback from the community regarding plans to allow for medium and high-density residential development at the site.
“Although the planning proposal has not been formally exhibited for public comment I have received a number of concerns raised by constituents that should be considered in evaluation of the proposal,” she said.
“These concerns include that the intensity of development is in excess of the area surrounding it.
“And while areas of public recreation are proposed, the areas of environmental conservation are inadequate for the protection of significant mature trees, flora and fauna.
“Already Hornsby Shire residents are concerned about the increased density, traffic and infrastructure impacts that will be created by the Cherrybrook Priority Precinct.
“This proposed new development would exacerbate these existing issues.”
Cr McIntosh called for council staff to make submissions to The Hills Shire Council.
“I believe Hornsby Shire Council should oppose this proposed amendment to The Hills Shire LEP which would facilitate this development,” she said.
The call for rejection comes as the development was approved with amendments by NSW Planning for gateway determination.
