Hornsby Council pre-dawn team captures rowdy rooster

A ‘CRACK cock-hunting team’ has been brought in by a Sydney council to prowl the streets of Sydney’s northwest before dawn — tasked with capturing a creature described as ‘the devil’.

A ‘CRACK team’ has been brought in to prowl the streets on Hornsby Heights before dawn to locate a crowing rooster — described as ‘the devil’.

A Hornsby Council spokesman said the streets are “once again safe” after the rooster was located following a final early morning crow this week.

“We assigned this mission to our crack cock-hunting team and they dispatched their most highly decorated fowl-finder,” the spokesman said.

“They were up at 3am and spent an anxious morning prowling the pre-dawn streets of Hornsby Heights.

“When the rooster finally crowed at 6am our agent was ready to swoop — it turned out to be directly next door to the main complainant.”

Hornsby Heights resident Alena Hughes has been woken by the rooster every morning at 4am for the past three months and made a desperate plea to council.

“I haven’t slept in months — it has been an absolute nightmare,” Ms Hughes said. “Neighbours have been complaining to the council but at first they said nothing could be done.

“I was walking the streets searching for the rooster.

“I was asking neighbours all over Hornsby Heights but it was pointless — no one would come forward.”

Ms Hughes said Hornsby Mayor Philip Ruddock intervened after she wrote to him directly.

“I can finally sleep, I will become human again after a few weeks rest,” she said.

The council spokesman said the ownership of roosters is not permissible in residential areas.

“The owner of the rooster was cooperative and it has been removed.” the spokesman said.
