PLANS are under way to revitalise our town centres through a council-run masterplan featuring green spaces, community facilities and a halt on residential development.
Hornsby Mayor Philip Ruddock said the masterplanning process, which will take place over the next several years, would provide a “holistic blueprint” for the future of the local government area, ridding fears of ad hoc development.
“This is not something that is going to be rushed through council, there is no urgency,” Cr Ruddock told the Advocate.
“We are seeking community feedback and expert opinion to provide better planning outcomes, setbacks, open space and design.”
Masterplans for the Hornsby CBD, Brooklyn town centre and Cherrybrook village precinct are being assessed by the council.
Cr Ruddock said residents could expect a new public library, community centre and theatre in the Hornsby CBD.
“I have said I want to see a link of the east and west side of Hornsby and provide public space in the heart of the CBD with a link to Old Man Valley,” he said.
“We have already reached many of our targets when it comes to residential accommodation for the next 10 years, so this masterplan will focus on better design and open space for the community to enjoy.”

Hornsby Council has been called on to establish the masterplan for the Cherrybrook station precinct, raising concerns around major infrastructure issues at the site.
“Some of me colleagues feel there should be no development at the station at all,” Cr Ruddock said.
“Council agreed we would masterplan Cherrybrook in a holistic way and we are engaging with the State Government.”
YOUR SAY:
A decent cafe and restaurant precinct. The Peats Ferry Road side could be developed thus, but I fear it will soon be a shadowy canyon between the high-rise.

Bike paths, bike parking, and e-bike charging stations instead of more and more car parks everywhere. Yes, it’s hilly, but with an e-bike anyone could bike around Hornsby if they weren’t in danger of getting mowed over by trucks and had somewhere to park the bike.

Please consider the huge economic boost that the sport of mountain biking can provide to our community if the trails are well funded and supported.

I would certainly like to see resolution of the old shopping strip in Asquith along the highway.

The old side would be fantastic if treated similar to church street Parramatta, a redesign of the Hornsby interchange for kiss and ride, especially for the older folk with luggage. (Also), make Peats Ferry Rd on the old side one way North bound and Station Street southbound.
