Covid-19: Hornsby Dan Murphy’s and Woolworths deep cleaned following positive case

A Dan Murphy’s and a Woolworths store in Sydney’s north temporarily shut their doors for a major clean after a positive Covid case walked the aisles.

A number of staff members of Dan Murphy’s Hornsby are in isolation following confirmation a positive Covid case visited the store.

The liquor shop at Hornsby Westfield was immediately shut down on Tuesday (July 27) for a deep clean after it was informed by NSW Health – three days after a positive case visited the shop.

A poster outside the store stated Dan Murphy’s had been advised the risk of customers and staff members being infected was “low”.

“We’ve been notified by the NSW Department of Health there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 in this store,” the poster read.

“While we’ve been advised the risk to customer sand team members is low, the store is now closed while we carry out a detailed deep clean.”

A Dan Murphy’s spokeswoman confirmed a customer at Dan Murphy’s Hornsby store tested positive for Covid.

“The customer visited the store on Saturday July 24 between 5.20pm to 5.40pm,” she said.

“Any customer who visited the store during the above time should follow the advice of NSW Health, which can be found on their website.

“All team members at Dan Murphy’s Hornsby have been contacted, and we offer our full support to those required to self-isolate in line with advice from the health authorities.

The spokeswoman said the store was closed for a deep clean from midday July 27 and reopened on Wednesday.

“The wellbeing of our customers, team, and communities is our highest priority, and we will continue to work closely with NSW Health, and in line with public health advice, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure ongoing safety in our stores,” she added.

As of Wednesday morning, Dan Murphy’s Hornsby was not listed as a venue of concern on NSW Health’s website.

When asked why the venue hadn’t been included on the list, a NSW Health spokeswoman said a special risk assessment was first carried out by the health department.

“When a confirmed COVID-19 case has attended a venue while possibly infectious, NSW Health carries out a risk assessment on that venue to determine whether other people may have been exposed and whether there is a public health risk.

“The public is alerted as quickly as possible when venues are identified where a risk assessment indicates potential exposure may have occurred,” she continued.

She added: “NSW Health has sent text messages to those who checked in via QR code to Dan Murphy’s at Hornsby to ask them to get tested and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

“The date and time of potential exposure will be included in a public health alert to be issued shortly.”

Woolworths Hornsby was also deep cleaned overnight after a positive Covid case visited the store on July 25 from 2.12-2.39pm.

“As a food retailer, we already have very high standards of cleaning and hygiene in place, and in addition to these high cleaning standards the store had a detailed deep clean overnight on 27 July,” a Woolworths statement said.

Anyone who attended the venues and has symptoms should get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
