Journalist Allison Langdon has swum with sharks in South Africa, come face-to-face with bears in Canada and ventured into the heart of volcanoes.
As a reporter with 60 Minutes, she has travelled the world reporting on the biggest stories of the day.
She has also written a book, co-hosts breakfast show Weekend Today, and is a mum to two small children.
Returning to work on Weekend Today earlier this year when her daughter Scout was eight weeks old, many viewers thought Langdon made the work life balance look easy.
But she said it was “really important to be honest” about what life really looks like behind the scenes.
“I think we have a real responsibility to do that,” she said.
Some days that means waking in the early hours of the morning, expressing milk and heading to the office for hair and makeup before she hits the nation’s television screens.
On other days it means working late at night on scripts, when the rest of the house is asleep.
Like most women, what works best means something different depending on the day.
“It works differently for every single mother,” Langdon said.
“I’ve been judged for going back to work too soon, and I have friends who feel they’ve been judged for taking too long off.
“It doesn’t matter what you do, it’s got to be your own personal decision.”
Langdon will share her journey, the juggle and struggles in a talk hosted by Helen McCabe at Westfield Hornsby on June 13.
Organised by Westfield and membership-based group Future Women, which was founded by McCabe, the Women In Conversation series will see Langdon and Jeffreys travel to Miranda next Tuesday before reaching Hornsby next Thursday.
Langdon said the Women in Conversation series were an opportunity for women from all walks of life to “all get together and share”.
“I’ve got some great parenting fail stories that I’m going to share with the crowd at Westfield over the next couple of days,” she said.
Langdon hopes that the talk will make women laugh and also remind them that “we’re all amazing”.
“And I think we often focus on how hard parenting is, that let’s also look at how much joy having children has brought us, how much fulfilment.”
The Women in Conversation starts at 11am at Westfield Hornsby’s Centre Court.
Tickets cost $30 and include a beverage and canapes on arrival plus a goodie bag.
