$600,000 State Government cash injection for Waitara Park inclusive playground plans

WAITARA Park will benefit from a cash injection from the State Government for plans to make the open space more inclusive.
A total of $600,000 worth of funding, announced exclusively by Planning Minister Anthony Roberts with the Advocate this week, will go towards planning, design and construction of the new inclusive play space at Waitara Oval.
Mr Roberts said inclusive play spaces were critical infrastructure for communities.
“These places are somewhere that every person, no matter their ability, should be able to enjoy,” he said. “We are seeing more and more people dislocated from where they live, so these places are not just an open space, they are meeting places that underpin our community.”
The new space at Waitara Park will include a fenced inclusive playground with shade structures, exercise equipment, park furniture and picnic tables.
Mr Roberts encouraged more councils to seek funding for inclusive playgrounds and open space.
Open space and parkland commissioner Fiona Morrison said playgrounds should be a place of all ages and abilities to visit.
“We looked at opportunities to provide funding across the whole of NSW and Waitara was one of nine playgrounds selected,” she said. “We wanted to create great amenity for the community to enjoy and Waitara Park already plays a key role.”
The State Government released new Everyone Can Play guidelines aimed at creating more inclusive playgrounds across the state.
