Castle Towers’ Piazza is undergoing a significant overhaul, but it is not the only changes to the centre’s food scene.

Inside the shopping centre numerous cafes have closed or been refurbished, and fresh new eateries have popped up.

The newest venue to join cafe crowd is The Bean Hub & Co, which opened on Level 2 last month.

The cafe’s focus is on healthy, wholefoods with broad appeal, from the on-trend yoghurt, fruit and granola ‘Hub Bowl’ to spinach spaghetti and pulled pork burgers.

Owner and mother of three Snezana Drazic knows the most effective way to encourage people to eat healthier is by making healthy food taste great — and that simple idea is the foundation of the cafe’s menu.

“We’re just trying to offer something different,” she said.

The “Farmer’s Garden Plate” - mushrooms, avocado, halloumi, tomatoes, greens and topped with a poached egg ($20).

“And we saw a gap in the market and we thought if we could offer really healthy, yummy stuff, the kids will eat it, the adults will eat it.”

The cafe's fresh and healthy ethos extends to the drinks menu where smoothies and turmeric lattes are listed alongside kombucha, cold pressed juices and organic teas.

For Drazic, a former barista, choosing the right coffee for the cafe was always going to be a careful and considered process.

She decided on the smooth-tasting air roasted Allpress, a New Zealand company that has a roasting site at Zetland.

The cafe’s decor is simple but modern and effective; concrete, raw wood and greenery make up the earthy colour palette.

The Bean Hub & Co is split into three areas, an open dining space, a long bar table at the front, and kitchen at the back.

The cafe offers table service but it is worth a visit to the front counter to browse the brightly coloured assortment of raw, paleo, vegan and gluten free sweets — all made by a local baker.
