THE BEST IN SYDNEY, AT SYDNEY ROAD

Some of the greatest lights in Sydney can be found during the festive season at Sydney Rd, Hornsby Heights.

The famous festive street celebrates Christmas in style with thousands of lights lining almost every home the street.

Residents encourage the public to park the car and explore the displays that will be lit until late every night until Christmas Day.

THE WHOVIAN GARDEN

Beecroft resident and Doctor Who fan Paulee Wright loves to put on a show at his Meadow Close home.

Mr Wright said he has been ramping up his Christmas display for the past four years, and is calling on his neighbours to get involved in the fun.

“I have been trying to get my neighbours to join in on the fun for many years — I might have to buy them a laser light night year,” he said.

“I like to pick a colour theme to stick to it so it isn’t too crazy, but still appealing.”

The Whovian garden at 2 Meadow Cl is a permanent fixture, however Mr Wright dresses up the display with Christmas lights during the silly season.

“I try to keep the Tardis as the centrepiece of the display — it is also our mailbox,” he said.

“The reason for the Whovian garden is the fact that I am a massive Doctor Who fan.

“The kids love the display, it is a great thing to get them involved in it, they make sure that Christmas is set up by December 1, they adore it.”

Mr Wright said Halloween was a major success this year, and he was determined to encourage more residents to visit the home and explore the display.

MOBILE DISPLAY

Marsden Park resident Scott Freeman has taken Christmas to the next level every year — decking his entire car with an incredible display of Christmas lights.

The dedicated festive fan started his mobile display while living in Londonderry, buying a car to decorate every year.

“It all started in 2012, I was living in the bush and you could never see the Christmas lights in the house,” he said. “I decided to decorate the car and make our display mobile.”

Mr Freeman started his display with 1000 lights, but this year his car has over 8000 lights.

“The lights are all 240 volts except for the lights on the wheels,” he said.

“This design took about a week to put together after work — around 15 hours of work all up.”

The Marsden Park resident’s car can be found at Parish St, Marsden Park, but on the weekend he takes his car on the road.

“We find a house or street that is decorated and we park it out the front to add to their display,” he said. “I love that it is something different, it is great to see the reaction of children and family.”

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT LIVES ON

Thornleigh resident John Baynie and his family lost everything — including their incredible Christmas light display — the day his house burnt down in 2016.

Two years on the loving father, who paid tribute to his late daughter with his festive light show, has rebuilt his home and Christmas display from the ashes.

“It was emotional seeing the Christmas lights back up this year,” Mr Baynie said.

“Our daughter started the Christmas display when she was a child, but after she passed away 12 years ago we decided that we would pay tribute to her every Christmas.”

Mr Baynie, who is now 80, worked to complete the light display for six weeks.

“Our entire family gets involved, both of my brothers live next door and they have their own Christmas light display,” he said.

“People across Thornleigh and Hornsby know of my daughter and her incredible charitable work, so our display means a lot to remember our beautiful girl.”
