THE groundwork is set to be laid for five new pedestrian bridges across the Hills.
Aimed at providing safety for residents, pedestrian bridges will be installed at Showground Rd over Cattai Creek in Castle Hill, Rosebery Rd in Kellyville to Chainmail Cres in Castle Hill, from Smalls Creek Way in Beaumont Hills to the future Oxlade St Reserve in Kellyville, a bridge over Cattai Creek between Strathfillan Way and Georgia Terrace in Kellyville, and a temporary bridge at Memorial Ave over Elizabeth Macarthur Creek.
The 16m-long Memorial Ave pedestrian bridge will only be in place until the road is upgraded and may later be moved further down the road to be positioned over Strangers Creek.
It will cost $112,189, including contingencies, and has been listed as a high-priority safety upgrade. The actual bridge will cost $60,000.
The pedestrian bridge over Showground Rd will cost $273,642, including contingencies.
The amount is jointly funded by The Hills Shire Council and the RMS.
The Smalls Creek Way bridge will require a lump sum of $258,145.73, including contingencies.
Funding of $345,881 had been provided in The Hills Shire Council’s 2016-17 budget for this project but had not yet been expended.
The Kellyville bush-track crossing over Cattai Creek between Strathfillan Way and Georgia Terrace will cost $68,994, including contingencies.
The cycleway bridge over Cattai Creek, connecting Rosebery Rd to Chainmail Cres, will require a lump-sum budget of $147,161.42, including contingencies.
The funding was approved at last week’s council meeting.
The council hopes it will not only ensure safety for pedestrians and cyclists alike but also increase walkability for residents in The Hills and improve interconnectedness between neighbouring suburbs.
