THEY may never be royals but that won’t deny Andrew Quaglia and Miriam Tarraf a fairytale wedding on the same day as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
When the newlyweds’ carriage weaves its way through the historic English town of Windsor on Saturday, Cherrybrook’s Andrew Quaglia’s journey will take him via Windsor Rd to marry the love of his life in a Harris Park church, also on Saturday, May 19.
As two billion of the world’s viewers watch the royal nuptials at St George’s Chapel, 250 of the couple’s nearest and dearest will celebrate with a ceremony at Our Lady of Lebanon Harris Park followed by a reception at Paradiso function hall, Fairfield.
“I was in a bit of shock but thought, ‘oh well, we’ll share the same day as the royals’,” Miss Tarraf, of Guildford, said.
“We’ve had guests saying ‘which wedding should we watch’? and ‘If I get invited to the royal wedding, which one should I attend?’
“I think the biggest thing I’m dreading is being the centre of attention but it will be fine on the day.
“I’m not an over-the-top type of person.
“I’m generally not a crowd type of person but I know everyone.”
While Meghan has been dubbed a modern princess, Miss Tarraf and her fiance will shell out for many expenses, while her parents will foot the bill for the reception.
“Our parents are helping but we’re trying to do as much as we can on our own,’’ Miss Tarraf said.
What’s on the menu for the wedding?
“What’s not on the menu for the wedding?” she said.
Hailing from Italian and Lebanese backgrounds, guests won’t go hungry with a feast of mezze plates, antipasto, pasta, chicken, lamb and desserts including profiteroles ready to devour.
“We met with the guy at the reception hall and he said ‘I don’t think you’re going to need all this food’ but we want to keep everyone happy,” Miss Tarraf said.
The 27-year-old speech pathologist will don a fit-and-flare Demetrios dress and will be accompanied by five bridesmaids.
While Prince Harry popped the question while a chook was roasting in the oven, Mr Quaglia, 31, showed his romantic flair and organised a picnic at Blues Point Reserve, North Sydney, with the Harbour Bridge providing a stunning backdrop to the proposal in November 2016.
“He’s a bit suave,” Miss Tarraf said.
As for family dramas surrounding the Markle family, the couple’s personal life is just the opposite.
“We’re a pretty chilled family,’’ Miss Tarraf said.
They will fly to Greece and Italy for their four-week honeymoon and live in their pint-sized palace, an apartment in North Parramatta.
