Cherrybrook lifesaver Elliott Prasad has been named the NSW Junior Lifesaver of the Year.

Elliott, 13, was awarded the prize on April 13 along with Matilda Shirley from Byron Bay Surf Life Saving Club.

The pair picked up the prestigious honour after impressing the judging panel during a week-long development program held at Collaroy Learning Centre.

Elliott and Matilda were nominated to take part in the annual leadership and development program along with 20 other lifesavers in their final year of Nippers.

Elliott, from Narrabeen Beach Surf Life Saving Club, was named the Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches’ male junior lifesaver of the year earlier this year, putting him in the running for the state honour.

The Oakhill College student said the program was “quite different to anything I’ve ever done before”.

“Being from a small surf club and winning a NSW award means a lot to me and everyone who has supported me along the way,” he said.

Elliott will be honoured as part of the annual NSW Awards of Excellence on August 5.
