The hot weather did little to stop more than 600 riders descending on Fred Caterson Reserve for the Castle Hill BMX Club’s 35th annual BMX Open on the weekend.
Sunday’s event, which included Round 1 of the BMX NSW State Series, attracted 639 participants aged from four to 65.
A practice run was held on Saturday in the scorching 43C but luckily the weather cooled down slightly for the main event on Sunday, with misting fans and water refill stations keeping people cool.
Winners from the day included Castle Hill BMX Club Members Kayden Underhill (8 Boys), Harrison Craig (15 Boys), Michael Carruthers (40-44 Men and 40-44 Men Cruiser), Julian Carruthers (11-12 Boys Cruiser), Veronica Robinson (9 Girls), Sophie Craig (12 Girls) and Paige Harding (14 Girls).
The club will hold a free ‘Come and Try BMX Day’ on Saturday at the track in Fred Caterson Reserve, with all welcome and a free coaching session held from 2pm-4pm.
Participants will need to bring a bike, long sleeve shirt and pants, gloves and a helmet.
Gloves and helmets can be borrowed from the club on the day if needed.
