A HUGE crowd braved chilly conditions at Crestwood Reserve on Sunday to watch the Hills District Bulls retain the Nathan Gremmo Memorial Shield with a 20-10 win over Guildford Owls in the Ron Massey Cup.

The annual Nathan Gremmo Memorial Shield match began in 2016 as a tribute to the former Bulls junior who died in a car accident the year before.

The Bulls got on top of the Owls early through a quick try to half Brock Pelligra and maintained their momentum throughout the rest of the first half to take a 12-4 lead into the break.

The Owls struck first in the second half to close the gap to just two.

But weight of possession ultimately saw the Bulls seal their victory when hooker Jaz Flavell regathered his kick late in the game to touch down next to the posts.

Nathan’s father and Hills vice-president Michael Gremmo said the event made him proud to be a part of the club.

“The shield is our biggest day of the year. (It means a lot) for us as a family,” he said. “Nathan’s name and number were on the jerseys and the guys playing did the club enormously proud.

“It was one of the best defensive efforts I’ve ever seen at Crestwood.”
