Three promising talents from Castle Hill Baseball Club have been selected in the Australian squad for next month’s under-15 Baseball World Cup in Panama.

Nick Chappell, Alex Ranieri and Solomon Maguire were named in the 20-man squad for the elite tournament after impressing selectors at a pre-world cup camp at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Chappell said he had been working on making the Aussie world cup side since last year.

“The camp was a great experience to be with other talented boys from around the country and see how I am performing and to know if all the hard training is paying off,” he said.

“I believe that I had shown that I am an outstanding catcher, a player that works hard every game and that I had started working on my possible selection back in October 2017 by getting fit and losing 12kg.

The three baseballers were selected after impressing at a pre-world cup camp.

“I went into every day with the thought of standing out at everything I did in each day of trials from hitting solid line drives to blocking and being solid behind the plate catching.”

Team manager Andy Kyle added that he was confident the chosen squad was capable of improving on its 11th place finish at the previous world cup.

“The overall quality of the squad was excellent and the coaching group were challenged throughout the selection process,” he said.

“We are excited to begin our world cup campaign against Japan and look forward to improving on our 2016 performance.”

The 2018 under-15 Baseball World Cup runs from Friday, August 10 until Sunday, August 19.
