What began as a rehab activity has blossomed into a way of life for Neave Muller, with the Castle Hill teen quickly becoming one of Australia’s best young powerlifters.
The 17 year old powerlifter closed out 2017 with a series of impressive results that cemented her as runner-up Oceania Champion in the U72kg Female Sub-Junior division.
Despite only picking up the sport 18 months ago, Neave represented Australia at the Oceania Pacific Powerlifting Championships in December.
Neave came away from the elite competition with silver medals in squat, dead lift, benchpress and total weight lifted.
“I wasn’t expecting to win anything at all, let alone silver,” Neave said.
“I (was) just grateful for the opportunity to represent my country. It wasn’t only winning a silver medal that made the Oceanias so incredible, but it was the fact that I achieved every goal my coach Liz Craven and I set out to achieve.
“Finishing the year off as runner-up Oceania Champion was the best feeling in the world, knowing that my hundreds of hours of hard work in the gym had paid off.
“I hope everyone gets to experience such a surreal moment at some stage in their life.”
After a well-earned break over Christmas, Neave says she’s looking forward to hitting the weights again in 2018, along with the books.
“This year I will be competing in my first competition in Canberra in March. From there I would like to compete at nationals in August ... and the Asia Oceanias in December.
“(This is) alongside completing my HSC and hopefully being successful in applying to university entrance in 2019 via the elite athlete program, so I can continue my future endeavours as a lifter while studying at university.”
