A sergeant facing accusations of domestic violence assaults will bid to have his charges dealt with under the Mental Health Act in court.

The former PolAir pilot was arrested at Kellyville on January 19 after police were called to a home about 10.30pm following reports of a domestic violence-related incident.

The 50 year old was taken to Castle Hill police station and charged with two counts of assault (domestic violence).

At Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, the cop’s solicitor said there were plans to make a Section 14 application after his client saw a psychologist in March.

Under a Section 14 order, a defendant who has a cognitive disability or mental health problem may not have to go to jail or pay a fine if they agree to seek help.

Sgt Waddups was excused from appearing in person and his bail was continued.

The matter will return to court on April 6.

In January, NSW Police said the officer was not in the workplace and his employment status was under review.
