A $32 million bridge is set to be constructed to link North Kellyville with Rouse Hill — providing residents with a second access and exit point for the growing communities.

On Tuesday, The Hills Shire Council passed a proposal to see the new bridge built over Smalls Creek from Edwards Rd, Rouse Hill to Ross Place North Kellyville.

Hills Shire Mayor, Michelle Byrne, said North Kellyville, Box Hill and Rouse Hill are new communities undergoing massive growth and change” sparking the need for the new bridge.

“This new road connection will help to ease traffic congestion and improve safety in the area, as well as provide an essential link between these communities,” Cr Byrne said.

“This new route has also been identified as a ‘key’ regional bus link by the State Government, and will provide residents with another public transport option.”

Hills councillor Peter Gangemi said the new bridge was essential for the people of North Kellyville — providing a safe passage for residents during bushfires — in an address to council before the vote.

“It is an area where we released expecting 4500 dwellings, however changes to zoning has seen an increase to 8000 homes,” he said.

“We are already seeing traffic challenges through North Kellyville, so the more people that move here the greater the challenge.

“We don’t want people to have to wait 10 minutes to clear Barry Rd, so this provides an extra outlet benefiting other arterial roads such as Withers Rd or Samantha Riley Drive.”

Objections from neighbouring residents raised concerns around the creation of rat runs through North Kellyville, but Cr Gangemi said the bridge will be “designed to service the North Kellyville community”.

Construction is expected to start in 2021.
