A Marsden Park couple are calling for police to find the “heartless scumbags” that shot and strangled a family of kangaroos in a nature reserve near their home.
Mark Wez and his wife were shocked to discover the three kangaroos — including a young joey — had been shot and strangled to death on the side of Herbert St, Marsden Park around 7am on Tuesday morning.
“These roos had become part of the family,” Mr Wez told the Rouse Hill Times. “They came to visit every afternoon, we fed them daily and all of our neighbours love them.”
The grandfather said his young grandchildren loved the small group of kangaroos, which had become friendly when people visiting the street.
“A whole family have been slaughtered,” Mr Wez said. “We found the three of them together with rope tied around their necks.
“My wife discovered them on her morning walk and came back in tears.”
But this isn’t the first time kangaroos have been hunted in the reserve, with Mr Wez telling the Times he often hears cars chasing them through the night.
“We have reported this to the police and we want answers,” he said.
“We hope someone knows the person that has done this and will come forward to police.”
A Quakers Hill Area Command spokeswoman told the Times officers were onsite and investigating the incident.
