Man approaches girl, 7, outside toilet block at Castle Hill park

Police are asking parents to teach their children about Safe People, Safe Places messages.

A man allegedly tried to grab a young girl’s hand outside a toilet block at a Castle Hill park on Saturday morning.

The seven-year-old girl was waiting near the toilet block at a reserve on Ferguson Ave when the man spoke to her and tried to grab her hand between 9.30am and 9.45am.

The girl pulled away and ran to her mother who contacted police. They wish to speak to a man described as being caucasian in appearance with a medium build, about 50-years-old, with grey hair and a grey moustache.

He was wearing a light brown leather jacket and blue jeans.

He left the area in a white Range Rover.

The incident has led to police urging parents to discuss Safe People, Safe Places messages with their children.

Those messages include making sure your parents or another adult knows where you are at all times, always walking straight home or to the place you are walking to, and walk near busier roads and streets or use paths where there are lots of other people.

Parents are also reminded to teach their children about trustworthy adults to talk to if their children need help. This can include police officers, teachers, adults they know or trust.

They are reminded not to talk to people they don’t know and never get into a car with someone they do not know.

CASTLE HILL

A 24-year-old Dean Park man tried to cover up a set of nunchucks and a machete when police stopped his car at Showground Rd on Thursday about 11.15pm. The passenger was fidgeting when police spotted a black backpack between his legs and what appeared to be a chrome pipe underneath it.

Police also found a machete and the chrome pipe, which unscrewed into a set of nunchucks. The man allegedly said he was using the machete to chop down trees. The man will face Parramatta Local Court on July 11 for possessing a prohibited weapon and possession of an offensive weapon.

KELLYVILLE

A large amount of copper worth $7000 was stolen from a railway construction site between Friday and Saturday night at the North West Rail Link construction site at Memorial Ave.

NORTH ROCKS

A drill set worth $1500 was stolen from a Bunnings store at North Rocks Rd. The cordless drill set was stolen about 1pm on Saturday by a man described to be 170cm tall, of medium build and Indian in appearance.

CASTLE HILL

Police found a bong and a small amount of cannabis after two boys were spotted acting suspiciously in the Fred Caterson Reserve carpark on Sunday. A dark-blue BMW was parked in a secluded area of the carpark about 1.30pm.

Two males allegedly pulled their hoodies over their heads as police drove by. Police approached the car and smelt cannabis. A 17-year-old Baulkham Hills boy allegedly said he owned the cannabis and bong found inside the car. He is being dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

CASTLE HILL

A 20-year-old Granville man who mounted the gutter in his car while leaving a McDonald’s restaurant on Barwell Ave has been charged with low-range drink driving on Saturday about 1.30am. He failed a roadside breath test and was taken to Castle Hill police station where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.050. He will face Parramatta Local Court on July 4.

BAULKHAM HILLS

7A bottle of Scotch whisky was stolen from a display cabinet at a liquor shop on Windsor Rd on Saturday about 3.15pm. The woman was described to be about 45 years old and wearing a Western Sydney Wanderers jersey with joggers.

CASTLE HILL

8A wallet with $180 cash was stolen from a table at a Castle Hill Rd home between 4pm on Thursday and 10.30am on Friday.

BAULKHAM HILLS

9 About $2200 worth of power tools have been stolen from a Volkswagen van on Seven Hills Rd. A nail gun and power tools were stolen from the van after a rear window was smashed between last Monday night and Tuesday morning.
