Homeowners in a new residential estate in Sydney’s northwest are fearing for their lives — and their homes — after a massive sink hole opened up under their street following the recent storms.
Residents in Limerick St, Box Hill told the Rouse Hill Times they fear a growing sink hole that appeared in their new residential development on February 9 could swallow their houses, and the street.
Suzanne Phillips said she and her neighbours contacted The Hills Shire Council and the developer behind the multimillion-dollar, newly completed development known as Eden Gardens in Box Hill.
But three weeks have passed and the hole continues to grow.
“I am terrified that my daughter will be sleeping in her bed and the walls could cave in.” Mrs Phillips said.
“We are just 30 metres from the hole, which now stretches underneath Limerick St.”
Mrs Phillips said she was concerned that the street remains open despite the structural issues underneath it.
“The developers have no answers for us,” she said.
“Our neighbours, who were supposed to move in at the start of the month, can’t get the keys from the developer because of the sinkhole.”
Ms Phillips said she wanted the developers behind the project, Silverstone, as well as The Hills Shire Council to address the growing issue.
“We are avoiding driving our car down the road because we just don’t know how far this sinkhole has grown,” she said.
A representative from Silverstone Developments and The Hills Shire Council were contacted for comment.
