THE slick design for the Bella Vista station on the $8.3 billion Sydney Metro northwest train line is being gradually put into shape.
The two canopies, whose designs are based on the blue gum leaf, are being put together by precision operations where more than 100 tonnes of steel are lifted into place for each one.
“This is the only Sydney Metro station with two of these unique landmark canopies, inspired by the local blue gum leaf,” Transport Minister Andrew Constance said.
Each canopy is 36m long and 34m wide, and rise 11m above the concourse level, according to Transport for NSW.
“The southern canopy is about 70 per cent complete with work remaining on the roofing and timber finishes, while the other canopy is about half finished,” a TfNSW spokesman said.
The canopies will provide two sheltered entry points for customers and include ATMs, Opal ticket machines and gates, toilets, parent rooms and information.
The canopies and concourse area provide an entry point from the station’s multi-storey carpark, which will have 800 spots.
Customers can then head through the gates to either lifts or escalators to the station platforms below.
The $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest project includes eight new metro stations while five existing stations will be upgraded to metro standards.
