Post-wedding drunken antics ended in a Sydney man assaulting a security guard at the Star Casino, a court has heard.

Jason Joseph Borg, 38, was on a driveway near the casino about 11pm on May 4 when security guard Ahmed Saeedi saw him “appearing upset and arguing with friends”, facts tendered to Downing Centre Local Court read.

As Mr Saeedi asked Borg, from Maraylya, to leave the location, Borg got close to him and said: “what do you want?”

According to the facts, Borg pushed Mr Saeedi away before several other security and staff intervened, taking Borg to the ground to restrain him.

“The accused has then been escorted away from the Star by his friends,” the facts read.

“Witnesses heard his wife state ‘Jason, you have kids at home’ before the accused has walked away”.

Registrar James Wiseman said Borg, who had no prior criminal history, had attended a function that night and had a number of drinks.

He said the offence was not the most serious but was not trivial.

“He is a well-respected member of the community with many admirable qualities and has demonstrated sincere remorse,” Mr Wiseman said.

“But matters of this nature around Star City Casino and the CBD are way too prevalent. If you go to a casino after drinking at a wedding, it is your responsibility to behave appropriately”.

Mr Wiseman sentenced Borg to a 12-month conditional release order without conviction.
