The Invictus Games has almost arrived in Sydney, but the celebrations have begun early in Glenorie.
Glenorie Bakery has created an “Invictus Pie” to support the event, with part proceeds donated to the games, a global sporting event for wounded, injured and ill veteran and active service personnel.
The pie went on sale on August 25 and will be sold at the bakery until the games’ closing ceremony on October 27.
The pies cost $8 each, and $5 from each one will be donated towards the games, which will be held in Sydney for a week from October 20 and will bring more than 500 competitors from 18 nations — as well as its inventor and patron Prince Harry.
For the pie’s flavour, Glenorie Bakery looked to the Invictus Games’ origins and went with a UK theme, inspired by the traditional cottage pie and the white English rose.
They hope to raise $10,500 for the Invictus Games — and have raised more than $3000 so far.
The bakery will hold an Invictus Pie Festival today, with visits from the Invictus Games Sydney chief executive officer Patrick Kidd and the games’ mascot, an Australian Blue Heeler named Cobber.
The festival, which starts at 11.30am, will include face painting, craft activities and junior baking classes.
Glenorie Bakery is located at 4/930 Old Northern Rd, Glenorie.
