INVESTIGATIONS are under way into an ugly brawl at a first grade rugby union match between the Rouse Hill Renegades and Blacktown Warriors on Saturday.

A police report said the brawl occurred at Kellyville Park, in Memorial Ave, at 4.55pm and resulted in two players being knocked to the ground unconscious.

The incident, which occurred after full-time, involved players and a spectator who allegedly knocked unconscious a male player from Stanhope Gardens.

It is also alleged a male Ropes Crossing player was knocked unconscious by another player.

Both players were taken to Westmead Hospital for observation and later released.

A police report said the game became very aggressive between the two teams and there was the suggestion the coaches wanted to end the game early to prevent it from getting worse.

NSW Suburban Rugby Union said it was conducting an investigation, with the findings to be presented to its judicial panel tomorrow night.

NSW Suburban Rugby Union’s competition manager Tim Richards said it “has zero tolerance for this sort of behaviour”.

A spokeswoman from the Warriors said the club was “extremely proud of the conduct that their players and officials maintained throughout the incident and chose not to be involved in the unnecessary violence that was brought on”.

The Renegades declined to comment as the incident was under investigation.

Police said the incident was being investigated but they still wished to speak to any witnesses who had not come forward.

Anyone who saw the brawl is being urged to contact police at Castle Hill Police Station on 9680 5399.
